March 15-19, 2017 – Two of our lab members, Siti Aminah & Alvin Paul recently attended the LIMSC conference held in the city of Leiden, Netherlands.  Ms. Siti presented her project titled “Transcriptome profiling of L. interrogans serovar Lai” in the poster format. Meanwhile, Alvin gave an oral presentation on the “Analysis of IRF9 phosphorylation state during type I interferon response”. The biennial five-day conference was attended by more than 300 participants from 55 countries spanning from the Americas to Asia. Prominent speakers from the UK and around the country shared their research experience with attendees and gave talks on medical issues.

December 21 to 27, 2016 - Our members, Prof. Tang , Dr. Citartan , Dr. Ch'ng , Pn. Siti Aminah and Mr. Prabu has begun an invitation visit to National Taiwan University and Tzu Chi University for research exchange and collaboration.  They gave talks to a research group led by Prof. Huang Min-Chuan at Graduate Institute of Anatomy and Cell Biology, College of Medicine, National Taiwan University. After that, they continued their journey to Tzu Chi University in Hualien to present and discuss on the research collaboration with Prof. Woon Peng Yeong and his group. They returned to Malaysia after the Taiwan trip while Mr. Prabu will stay at Tzu Chi University as an attached student for the next 6 months.

November 21-22, 2016 - Our MSc. member,  Tan Lee Lee  , has joined as an oral presenter the 3rd International Halal Conference organized by the Academy of Contemporary Islamic Studies (ACIS), Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), Shah Alam, to present her project entitled " Evaluation of a duplex PCR assay for porcine DNA detection in meat-based food products ". The two-day conference was attended by 250 delegates from Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Indonesia, Thailand, South Korea, Japan, etc., as well as 9 invited speakers from major Halal organizations, such as JAKIM, Halal Industry Development Corporate (HDC) and World Halal Development (WHAD) from Italy.

October 24, 2016 - Our group member, Dr. Lee Li Pin, has graduated during the 54th Convocation Ceremony of USM, held in the Dewan Tuanku Syed Putra (DTSP), USM. Heartiest congratulations! In August 2016, Dr. Ng visited the research centre of Shanghai Asclepius Meditec Co. Ltd in JiaDing, Shanghai on his own expenses. The purpose of this visit is to establish contact with the research team in Shanghai, China that is one of the leaders in the research area about the therapeutic potential of molecular hydrogen (H2). Dr. Ng wanted to strengthen mutual understanding on molecular hydrogen research and further explore collaborative opportunities with the wider research network in China. Shanghai HongQiao Railway Station Due to the molecular size and chemical nature of H2, specialized equipments are required for research purposes. This visit allowed Dr. Ng to explore in-person, the modifications that may be adapted to existing equipments currently available for cell culture- and rodent-based hydrogen research.

Dr. Ch'ng attended the XXXI International Congress of the International Academy of Pathology and the 28th Congress of the European Society of Pathology jointly sponsored by the ESP and the German Division of the IAP, from 25 - 29 September 2016, Congress-Centrum Ost Kölnmesse, Cologne, Germany.
